Employee Handbooks are for SMEs Too.....

Employee handbooks are essential to the development of a small company. Employee handbooks protect the employer and employee. Since the 1980's Michigan employees have been encouraged to include a policy in the employee handbook indicating they are an at-will employee. At-will employment is a term used in U.S. labor law.  U.S. Labor law relationships are contractual relationships in which an employee can be dismissed by an employer for any reason (that is, without having to establish "just cause" for termination, and without warning. 




Employee handbooks should be updated regularly (annually).
